Top 5 Songs of Khayaam, Retronance pays tribute

Veteran music director and composer Khyaam known for wonderful compositions in films like Kabhi Kabhi and Umrao Jaan and the winner of Hridyanath Award breathed his last on 19th August 2019 in Mumbai. He was 92. He has composed music for just over 50 movies but created much greater impact on his listeners and fans. Retronance team along with our patrons feels deeply saddened by the demist of music maestro and deem this as a huge loss to music and film world. There can be no tribute better than reminiscing Khyaam’s top most loved songs:

  1. Baharon mera Jeevan bhee sanwaro

This was the song he composed for Rajesh Khanna’s debut film and Khayaam’s last Hindi movie after 8 years’ sabbatical. This beautiful song was penned by Kaifi Azami and sung by Lata Mangeshkar.


  1. Kabhi Kabhi mere dil mein khayal aata hai

Khayaam wrote this eternal song for legendary actor Amitabh Bacchan starrer ‘Kabhi Kabhi’ and the song won 3 Filmfare awards for best lyrics. Kabhi Kabhi was superhit film of its time.


  1. In aankhon ki masti ke deewane hazaaron hain

Rekha’s Umaro Jaan is the favorite of many of us. the music of this movie was composed by Khayaam and he won both National Film Award and Best Music Award for the movie.


  1. Phir Subha Hogi

Recommended by Sahir Ludhianavi, Khyaam had to pass Raj Kapur’s Test  for tuning a tanpura in order to get the movie. The duet version of ‘wo subha kabhi to aayegi’ was the most hummable song of the film.


  1. Karoge yaad to har baat yaad aayegi

Taken from film bazaar, this song was sung by Bhupendra and picturized on Naseeruddin Shah and Smita Patil.

Khayaam was honored with Padma Bhushan in 2011 and several other awards for his unforgettable contribution to film industry. When Khayaam is no more among us, his magical music and melodious compositions will rule our hearts for centuries.
